Are you kidding? They buy coal 225 each and it takes 2 coal and 1 iron to make a bar and the bar gives way more xp

Things dont add up like that. Its like raw fish are worth more than cooked because of the potential cooking xp.

But you are forgetting the lack of them for sale.  So really, if nobody else is selling.. he could sell for 2k each if he even wanted (and if someone was silly enough to pay that much for them, but you get my point).

Well that's what i'd do if I had the money haha

CBF to make only like 9 steel bars per inv. Even worse at rune, you can make like 3 per inv.

Thanks dude now you guys if you aren't interested in buying just don't buy for all the fucks I don't give! You now have all the reasons why I consider buying a steel bar 500 gp is reasonable.
