News & Announcements / Re: Halloween Event Suggstions

In my opinion the scythe or possibly a custom event related to the 06 event would be fun... i'd rather not have an event where it's just drops. Something like we did with the christmas event would be fun!

Yeah, I think you can bet on it. Ryan usually does something holiday events.
Not promising anything, but they did mention an event was planned.

I definitely wasn't talking about you Austin, sorry if it came across that way. Out of all the developers we've had, you've hands down been my favorite and in my opinion the most effective. That was directed at the veterans (you know who you are) who pissed and moaned that they didn't have any glory on the forums when they came back from a 6 month hiatus and nobody knew who they were.
Oh sorry, I assumed you were talking about me because it was included in the same sentence answering my question. I apologize for the rant.

Lol, the veteran badge means  nothing, it was literally Givin out to 95 percent who applied.
what happened to the ex-staff title? Just curious.

No idea it was supposed to be somewhat converted to the veteran title. Veteran being someone who did something of significance for the game itself (i.e the vote topics that JT made which was a fantastic idea,  where all staff members voted and if it wasn't unanimous or pretty dang close to unanimous they wouldn't get the title.). Ex staff certainly falls into that category. People who log in every once in a while and post stuff on the forums every month or so or quit for extended amounts of time and come back certainly didn't do anything for the game.
ouch, i'm applying lotion to the burn currently don't worry.

P.S. although I was gone for extended periods of time during my last few months of having staff, I would like to say that I did everything in my willpower to try and get you guys to work on stuff. I myself was on this game every day for long long hours every week before then and would try to help any and every player I could. Although I didn't have to, I spent days helping push out that Christmas event because I knew that's what the community really wanted.... I told you guys what would happen if each situation were to occur and you guys went along and did it anyways. I said several times that people would be dissppointed in several updates if they were pushed out (even though Ryan did do a lot of work), but people want to see the content, not have it sitting in the background for "future updates". I created multiple quests that to this day was never used and got over a hundred dialogues that TO THIS DAY still haven't been put in.  It may seem like I didn't do much, but I did well beyond my job in what I was required to do. Hell even the advertisement that me and Petter worked on for literally weeks, never was used. We put a lot of work into that ad as well..... So yeah I guess you could go ahead and say that I didn't do anything for the game, but in my eyes I did a hell of a lot more than what was expected out of me and went beyond my job to at the very least attempt in putting this game on the right track. Sorry for the little rant but to say I didn't do anything for the game is blasphemy.

I'm so damn excited for Cook's assistant!

if someone said that anywhere else it would be really odd lol

Anyone who says that anywhere else would be humiliated and ridiculed lol, here its pretty acceptable. Though according to n0va I do believe cooks assistant was completed "a long time ago".
Yeah... it was completed a long time ago. No idea why it isn't in the server though :/ I would say pretty much all the F2P skills are done besides the fact that they all need one thing added to the editor for that each quest to be completed.

I believe it was something like they would inflate their player count by like 20% or something like that.

COMMUNICATION!?!? THAT is what a community needs. Don't leave a community hanging for too long or they get antsy. I would like to see more consistency with these sort of updates :)

Ryans source is not coded the same as every other private server. Most servers in their source have .class files to edit the code, but ryans is actually .agf (AllGoFree) a custom kind of file made by him. The code will NOT at all no bueno work on his files. This is because it's coded COMPLETELY different. so different in fact that it takes a special program which i believe is also made by ryan to even launch the damn file.

So? Changing a file extension doesn't mean much. You don't have to tutor me on how programming works. It can still be Java, and Java is easy and all-powerful. Don't be so naive to think that NO RSPS tutorial could help aid someone developing it. At the end of the day, you're coding an RSPS.. it's all the same protocol.

http://rsps.wikia.com/wiki/317_Protocol

Any intermediate programmer who's determined enough can use that one webpage to create an RSPS from scratch. It isn't magic or creating his own programming language, Ryan's just been one of the few who's been willing to pull it off.
I wasn't even tutoring anybody, I was explaining why copy/pasting code doesn't work. Also, just so you guys know, Onur doesn't exactly code anything. He simply uses the "UI" if you can call it that, to add and plug Npc's, shops (occasionally),  and drops. Anything else he basically can't do. Yes ryan did have a quest editor going, but that thing hasn't been updated in god knows how many months and is collecting dust, and most of the time couldn't do what most quests required in it.

I agree, and i wish i could code and help develop. Because to be completely honest, i could afford having no life. lol
We're getting a public api soon,so everyone could literally code for us

How is it going to work.
This has been in the midst of Ryans ideas for a while but it seems that he is finally actually doing one of them lol.... basically what this api will do is that the server itself will run off a program which accepts "plug-ins" if you may call it. People code the plug ins (like bukkit in minecraft) and then you simply add it in a file on your source code and the server will accept it as added content to the game. This will allow people who don't know how to program, able to run a successful server with other peoples plug-ins and will allow owners to trust their co-owners, staff, etc. with helping them in developing the game. Basically if james were to come back right now, he could code a couple quests if he wanted to, without ever having access to the source code. Neat huh!
