As most players know, farming patches with crops planted in them often revert to weeds seemingly at random. This is generally assumed to be random and left to fix itself. Nabeel and I have noticed several patterns and believe that certain patches becoming diseased or dying actually controls the status of corresponding patches at different farms, as mentioned
here and in the sticky
here. I'm going to use this thread to combine observations related to this issue; hopefully this will help find the cause of the bug.
Observed patterns:
- Dead allotments in Falador cause corresponding allotments in Catherby to disappear. Once Falador is cleared, Catherby reverts to the correct state. Observed repeatedly by FarmFTW and Nabeel.
- Dead flowers in Falador cause the flower patches in Catherby and Ardougne to disappear. Once Falador is cleared, Catherby and Ardougne revert to the correct state. Observed by FarmFTW and Nabeel.
- Diseased flowers in Catherby cause the flower patch in Ardougne to disappear. Once Catherby flowers are cured, Ardougne reverts to the correct state. Observed by FarmFTW.
- Dead allotments tend to cause allotments at the same farm to disappear. More observations needed.
- The status of crops in Ardougne do not seem to have any impact on Catherby or Falador.
I plan to test each patch with the following methodology:
- Fill all patches with finished crops.
- Deliberately allow a single patch to die.
- Visit all other patches and observe changes.
- Replace the dead patch with a finished crop. Rinse and repeat.
I will test allotments first using cabbages, followed by flower patches using marigold and finally herbs using guam. All grown using compost.
I will update this list with more patterns as I find them. Feel free to contribute any issues you find and I will add them to the list. It would be great if multiple people could repeat the same experiment using cabbages to find out if this problem is different on each account.
Happy farming
