There is an unlimited list of free multi-player games. Plenty on Steam and you can also look up games on other sites like MMOBomb and MMOHuts. Even if your PC is a piece of shit you can easily find something you can run! I can't really help you out suggesting a game though as most stuff I'm interested in right now is either alpha or early-beta and very buggy/unoptimized. :)

I recently found Villagers and Heros, an mmorpg that seems promising. I've yet to play it but it looks solid and simple. I downloaded it and plan on giving it a whirl once I accomplish some more goals in RuneRebels. It's free on steam with an expansion included.

I forgot to mention before.... if you want a browser based point and click MMORPG you could try Eldevin, I played it for a while it has a sort of Runescape feel and is pretty good.
