I know that this is a small update, but I wanted to get the latest code from the testing stage into the release stage and identify what is causing some major bugs; such as the bugs with the Slayer skill.


- The bugs with Slayer have been identified and involve the database; I will be looking for developers to fix them.
- Added ::slayerdebug for developers.
- Added ::clearslayertask for developers.
- Added ::setdefaultchateffects for administrators.
- Added the Wilderness in Edgeville dungeon.
- Fixed some bugs in the engine.

Just a few small things. :)

We don't want to release too much content at once, as bug fixing would become a nightmare.


The Herblore Skill has been released!

You can now get sand from sandboxes

   - Added Wysin’s Food Shop in Port Sarim.

Ranged:
   - Fixed arrow's not stacking properly.

Wilderness:
   - Cannot teleport past 20 wilderness.

Duel Arena:
   - Duel Arena gate can now be opened.

Bank:
   - Shantay Pass bank now works.

FoodAndDrink:
   - Flax is now randomly picked from 1 to 5, not just 1 constantly

Emotes:
   - Rabbit Hop glitch fixed.

Thieving:
   - Double clicking thieving stalls no longer gives double drops and XP.

Client:
   - Removed the IDs and Coordinates from right click options.
   - Changed the default port back to 43594.

Website Upgraded!





Lets start off with the good news; we have a whole new website for you guys! The new website is an entire new design that Kevin worked very hard on, so make sure to thank him for it! ;D
The world select page, online players page, as well as the web client have all been completely rewritten for this new website. The donation page and the highscores will follow very soon, and we hope you guys like the new design! :)


And now for the bad news; as I was going through the old code and rewriting it for the new website, I discovered a suspicious file on the web server. This was during the planned maintenance, which wasn't supposed to take so long. As a precaution, we did a full security sweep of our VPSes, which is why the maintenance took longer than expected. However, as a security precaution, we recommend that you change your password for the RuneRebels website. Additionally, if you use the same password on any other websites, you should change it on those sites as well. All of our passwords are salted and hashed, so they should be secure, but we always want to be transparent with you guys. We take security very seriously, and will always make sure all your information is secure!


Lastly, we have made significant progress on the 2.0 update, and this is now reflected in the progress bar on the homepage. Enjoy the game!

VPS

I am very happy to announce that we have just moved both the website and the game to a brand new VPS, thanks to a generous donation made by jmood.
My internet went out yet again, so I figured that it was the perfect time to make the move.
It is still out as of the time I am posting this, and I am again using my phone for the internet at my house.

The VPS should make both the website and the game a lot faster and more stable, and hopefully get us to that 99.9% uptime!

News & Announcements / Suspected DDOS Attacks

As you guys probably know, the game and site have been a bit spotty. While at first we believed that this was just Time Warner messing up, someone may be trying to attack the game and/or website. Last night we turned the tunnel back on to Kevin's house, as my internet went out again, and then Kevin's internet went out today. Either that is a very odd coincidence, as we are on opposites sides of the country, or something fishy is going on.

We are working on implementing a whole fleet of DDOS mitigation techniques for both the site and game, as we want to aim for 99.9% uptime. Plus they really suck, not just for the players, but for the staff as well; I have now spent the last two days working on this issue instead of working on new content and bugfixes for the game, and that makes me sad. :'(

January 2nd, Downtime


As many of you probably noticed, the website and game were down early this morning, starting at around 2 AM. This was due to a problem with my Internet, which is provided by Time Warner. Both my home phone and Internet went out, and are still out! However, of course a simple internet outage isn't going to stop me.  ;)

I quickly tethered my phone to one of my servers to provide Internet for my entire house, and programmed it to behave exactly like my router. However, my iPhone 5 is behind Verizon's firewall, so I wasn't able to accept connections to the website or the game.

So, I decided to write a tunnel program that allowed me to tunnel through the Verizon firewall, which I spent all night writing! (It is currently 9 AM and I haven't slept yet O.O) The tunnel uses Kevin's Internet as an endpoint to the open Internet, and all the traffic to the servers at my house passes through Kevin. It was just an idea a few hours ago, but it freaking works!!!

It has been a long time since I've posted an update pack; and I am extremely happy to post this one! I've been hammering out many bugfixes and new features that have been on my todo list for quiet some time, and today we are releasing a bunch of them that we feel are needed before the 2.0 update!

We have also added a second game world, which I know skillers will appreciate. ;) You can access this world by changing the port to 43596 where it shows "Port:"

Engine
   - Fixed old engine (317) sound bugs.
   - Added saving for chat effects setting.
   - Added saving for mouse buttons setting.
   - Adding saving for public chat, private chat, and trade/compete.
   - Fixed a bug where a player could be attacked after they logged out.

Tutorial Island
   - Added ::settutorialstatus for administrators and developers for use on other players.

Database
   - Fixed lots and lots of item weights, alchemy values, shop values, and bonuses!

Christmas
   - Added ::disablesnow and ::enablesnow, as well as a message explaining them.

Here are the contents of the August 10th update.




Included updates:

Database:
   - Fixed the wield slot for the Villager Sandals.

Farming:
   - Fixed a bug where a Blitz Error could occur.

Engine:
   - Fixed disappearing feet glitch; redesign your character to fix it.
   - Fixed the bug where your beard would disappear when wearing medium helmets/hoods.
   - Fixed the bug where your hair would show through on medium helmets.

The main reason for this update is that a lot of the code in the login server for loading/saving account data has been redone, as well as the protocol between the game worlds and the login server. The engine and the game have gotten very large over the years, and I am trying to simplify and streamline as much of the code as I can, and make it easier to use and configure. :)

I was sick and in the hospital over my break, and after getting back to college I had to catch up on the work that I missed, and I have been very busy with lots and lots of schoolwork.
