Behind the Scenes! -Jan 2019-

As many of you are aware, 2018 was an exciting year for the RuneRebels development team. Not only did we accomplish our goal of one update per month, we also were able to work in a few extra things such as our Halloween and Christmas events. We started off January with a bang -- our first Double XP event in recent memory!

All of this wouldn't have been able to be accomplished without the excellent guys that I work along with, and I'm ecstatic and excited to be a part of the project again.

HOWEVER, Onur and I were discussing a few things, and it came to my attention that we don't actively involve the community in a lot of the things that goes on behind the scenes. Formerly, we had a Future Updates board that was reserved for Donators, but it has since become a dead zone. Instead of restricting the Future Updates posts to Donors only, we've decided to open it up and just do a monthly behind the scenes.

There is a lot going on in the development kitchen currently, and here is what we anticipate to bring to you in the January update:

1. Slayer Bugfixes

We're aware that Slayer came sometimes be a pain. Getting tasks that seem way below you constantly, tasks that aren't even completable, tasks that when you kill your assignment don't count towards it; we get it. Onur is currently working on the tasks themselves, while Ryan is currently working on a weighting system for tasks. We anticipate this to be done this month, however, due to time constraints it may have to be pushed back.

2. More DOORS YAY!111!!1 (oh, and NPCs too!)

On my to-do list for the month is working on doors for a new area that we hope to introduce in the coming months. I can't go too much into detail, but it's something the entire development team is really excited for!

3. Some new tools for the Quest Editor! (Sean's Fav :D)

Ryan is also working on some new tools to help Sean, Gustav, and Bill work on a few quests. There are a couple that are almost ready that are held up by one or two things, with most of them being held up on a Cutscene Editor to help produce the small cutscenes that you would see in the old 2006 quests. We hope to have this done in January, and if it's done early enough, another quest launched. But again, no promises!

4. And finally, this is more to brag about our development progress this year.

Even though some of the updates looked small, there was A LOT of work done on the backend. In our GitLab development dashboard, the development team as a whole closed 485 tickets this year. Let's shoot for 600 this year and go from there!

Thanks for taking the time to read this guys.

luv u

-Jems and the AGF Development team

BEHIND THE SCENES

Sup, guys! I'm sure you're all enjoying having a new skill; But, while you guys and petter are busy grinding that xp away, we've been busy squashing all of these pesky bugs that have come with the release!

While Ryan has been busy with the actual coding and fixing of the bugs, our new Bug Report Masters have been busy putting everything into our centralized Gitlab area for proper sorting. Dev Sean has been busy fixing some bugs and messing around with some quests while Bill is hard at work on his super secret project. Onur has been busy with some general dev work, and Petter has been laying the foundation for site revamp. RiiPiin has been playing around with Agility and getting the formulas correct and bugs squashed. While all these bugs have been getting squashed, I've (James) been busy filling in some gaping holes in the RR world. Most notably, the areas around Castle Wars including the Ogre areas:

and also the Z.M.I areas:

We've got lots of stuff in the pipeline for the next couple of weeks/months, but please keep in mind that Aries is more or less just a bug fix update, with some content. We feel that's the best way to keep dev going -- a major release, and a minor release or two following. But for now, have fun getting them Agility capes!

« on: January 07, 2017, 08:19:24 pm »
Hello everyone!

To try and make it more user friendly around here and loosen the reigns, we've combined the forum rules and in-game rules into one topic, and greatly GREATLY reduced them. We went from over 20 rules combined to four combined. Please check them out below!

Rules & Information / Rules *Updated*
« on: January 07, 2017, 08:07:39 pm »
We got to looking at the rules, and a lot of them are very outdated. We're not trying to rule with an iron fist, we just want everyone to enjoy their time here. These rules apply to both the forums and in-game.

Rule #1 - Spamming -
Please do not make any type of spam posts on the forums such as topics about the server status, or multiple topics about the same thing. in addition, please don't gravedig topics that are more than one month old. Please refrain from spamming the in-game chat window as well.

Rule #2 - Botting, Scamming, Hacking, and Bug abuse -
In regards to botting, hacking, and abusing bugs; just don't do it. If you find a bug in-game, report it in the proper forum, if the account is not yours, don't try and get it, and if you feel like you have to bot to reach a certain stat level you're playing the wrong type of game. Account sharing is not encouraged, but is allowed. Don't scam other players, and if something's too good to be true it probably is so don't fall for it. Items and accounts will NOT be returned if lost.

Rule #3 - Advertising -
We don't advertise on any other RSPS server, and we don't want you advertising on ours. We're not a top site or a hub.

Rule #4 - Encouraging Rule Breaking -
Don't encourage anyone else to break any of the aforementioned rules. Doing so will net you the same punishment as them.

News & Announcements / My Resignation
« on: March 19, 2016, 08:42:33 pm »
Hey guys,

I hate to drop it off like this, and it's going to be quite long, but I'm going to be as blunt and straightforward as possible. When Kevin got out, I saw my opportunity to speak my mind and do so as well. This will be my resignation.

For starters, lets take a look at the good stuff. I started playing AGF's first server (Worldscape) Back in late 2006 early 2007. Those early days were some of the best times of my gaming life. After playing for a couple weeks, I got to know Ryan and the way way wayyyy former owner, Gizmo. We started talking about the server, ways it could improve, etc. and I eventually received a player moderator spot. After about two weeks of being a player moderator, I became an administrator. After Gizmo did some pretty shitty stuff, Ryan brought Jeremy on as his new co owner, and I was given the title 'head of staff.' Life happened, and at the time I was falling behind in some of my college work and working two jobs, so I decided to give up PC gaming altogether and left. Flashforward to oh... I believe it was 2010 or 2011, and I decided to see if Worldscape was still around. It was, and I got reacquainted with Ryan, and got to know Kevin. I was given my administrator privileges and before long, they both asked me to step up and become a part owner. Around this time, RR was started. I was slow to jump on board, focusing the majority of my attention on a dead game from my childhood, but eventually came around.

WorldScape (and later RuneRebels) has become a huge part of my young and adult life, and for that I couldn't thank everyone enough. I've had a lot, and I mean A LOT, of fun getting to know most of you, and made some great friends along the way.

Now that that's out of the way, I'm going to get to the bad. This isn't attempting to throw shade towards anyone, this is just me being as open and honest as possible, like I've always tried to be.

First, communication itself between Ryan, Kevin, and Myself has become almost non existent. To the point where sometimes, we don't speak for 1-3 MONTHS at a time. I know this goes three ways, but it's still unacceptable, unprofessional, and just downright won't work for an ownership group.

Second, there have been way too many empty promises made by all of us. I think deep down, we all genuinely wanted to bring RR and WS back. Real life has gotten in the way wayyy too many times, and in my opinion if we can't make time for this, there's no point leading you guys on any farther. The database (that was supposed to be brought back over 3 months ago) was never brought back online. There has been no further development to the API system that was supposed to be introduced over 3 months ago. There has been 0 progress made internally to the server in almost two years. Ryan is working on multiple start up projects and has no time whatsoever for the RSPS's. Kevin is now working on ServerAds, and I'm busy being a grown up. It's just not feasible.

Third, we've been way too dishonest with the majority of you guys, and chased off the majority of our playerbase because of it. The reputation that RR and AGF has right now is pretty awful, and for that I apologize.

Again, I want to sincerely thank everyone for the fun I've had the past 8 or so years. It's been really enjoyable (minus the last year or so), and I'll still be around every now and then. And to Ryan specifically, if you plan on bringing the RSPS's back again, I do wish you the best of luck.

Your alcoholic buddy,

-James

News & Announcements / Merger
« on: January 28, 2016, 03:36:09 pm »
Hey everyone,

I'm really excited to announce that AllGoFree is back. In the next couple of weeks, we'll be introducing some more members of the development staff we're building, as well as some things to expect in the future. A lot of the stuff is going to be awesome, some of it not so awesome at first, but in the end it'll all be awesome.

First things first. All of our servers are becoming too scattered and we hate that. What we're going to be doing is merging all of our servers to one forum, with the URL to be announced in the future. All of our other urls will direct you there at that point, and there will be different boards for different servers. Not only does it make it easier for us to moderate, but it will also affect our ability to fix bugs. This should happen sometime between March and April.

Secondly, we're going to look into bringing 1-2 full time RuneRebels exclusive developers. These one to two people will focus SOLELY on RuneRebels and not any of our other projects or servers. With the plugin API functioning and nearing 100% completion, it'll be easier for us to implement different updates. We're also looking at bringing on one more player moderator, which we're currently searching for in house.

Last, I want to apologize for the away time. Once the database is up and fully functioning, I'm going to promise you guys a small-scale update for the time being, until we get everything a little more organized. We are not planning on any resets or adjustments to the XP rates at this time, and don't think it'll be visited anytime soon.

If you have any questions, feel free to post or PM me, I'm all ears!

News & Announcements / Design an Event and Client Background contest!
« on: December 06, 2014, 04:37:37 pm »
Hello everyone,

As we know, the holiday season is quickly approaching. We would like to see some ideas for our Christmas event this year.

Unfortunately, it's really hard for us to completely redo events that took place in RuneScape, because there doesn't exist a lot of dialogue from back then. And, though this is a remake, we do like to kind of put our own twist on things. So that being said, we're going to be hosting two contests.

Contest #1: Design a Client Background!

For all you graphical artists out there, here's your shot! We need a Christmas/Winter themed background. The winner of this contest will receive credit in the credits section of the event, as well as an NPC character based off them in the event. This player will also receive the "Community Member" badge on the forums.

Contest #2: Design the Christmas Event!

Got a wonderful story that you want to see brought to life? Here's your shot! We need a Christmas themed event, with Christmas themed NPCs! However, there are some restrictions:

1. We cannot add NPCs into the game. What's there is there.
2. We would prefer there be no actual combat involved - that way skillers can participate.
3. No coarse language.
4. Nothing impossible, like KBD blowing up sections of the map.

The winner of this contest will receive a NPC clone included in the event, as well as credits in the credit section at the end of the event. This member will also recieve the "Community Member" badge on the forums, as well as an NPC dedicated to them after the event is concluded.

Help us, Help you and suggest your event today!

News & Announcements / Skill Capes and Yell!
« on: November 02, 2014, 01:40:01 am »

Hey guys, long time no see!

Today, we've got two things for you. We've reintroduced the yell channel for now. You can now broadcast over the yell channel by using the following syntax:

::yell message

Please don't abuse the yell channel! Spamming is against the rules!

And, with popular demand, we've also introduced skill capes! Capes can be obtained from Bob the Cat in Lumbridge, next to the lumbridge guide for 99,000 GP. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to the Bunny Hop emote for the skill cape emotes to work.

Have fun!
