Title: ::yell or a game chat
Post by: darkside on October 06, 2014, 07:28:16 pm
Its getting annoying having to add everyone to sell stuff or just to talk. And without a close community the game gets boring (in my opinion).

You can add clan chat or even ::yell

preferably ::yell

sorry for spelling errors

100% in agreement with a clan chat type function.  Make the players auto join upon logging in, but have the option to log out of clan chat.  It would give the playerbase a great avenue to communicate while playing.

Yea I am also open to having a type of clan chat. We have a loyal RR vets chat going on elsewhere.

This is not going to happen. Although I don't mind a yell system completely moderated by staff, mostly like ::yelloff and ::yellon for flaming or spamming purposes.
This could be awesome for the time being, but I doubt Ryan wants this here ;/

We removed it due to the amount of spam in the game. We had introduced the IRC channel, at the time, but it seems to never get used.

I will talk to Ryan and James, maybe we can re-introduce it and have it turned off by default and players can ::yelloff or ::yellon and possibly mute individual players(maybe) Because when there is a lot of players it can get hectic.

I'm beyond the word "purist" when it comes to a true 06 remake.. and I never thought I'd say this.. but I'm definitely on board with a ::shout or ::yell feature to show up in the main chat box instead of pm'ing people.. I think a good way to gauge when to cut it off is when we have like 50-75+ active players on at all times.. Until then I don't think we would get much spam.. if there was a spammer I'm sure this community would shut them out pretty quick by way of mute or reporting to you guys so that you could intervene.. For the time being it would let people get items sold and bought quicker therefore giving people a little bit more of a reason to play. It connects people when someone is thieving in Ardougne and feeling bored and alone they can talk to someone killing green drags in the wild and someone else making farm runs.. It would definitely make things less boring and even if it didn't directly draw people to the game I think it would indirectly affect people staying because I've known people to quit just because they never seen a green/white dot run across their map

Maybe there could be some kind of yell or shout count per minute or something to that nature. We could have a command that could enable or disable you to participate in the yell or group chat as well. That would ensure that those who want it can participate and those who don't want to don't have to.

Just add the ::Yell channel and give mods the ability to turn the yell channel on or off. It's worked all these years for Worldscape and it had more than 4 players on at a time.

This sounds perfect. Maybe not as a permanent thing to do, but temporarily it would work fine

You would have to have a test run to see how it goes. If moderators and admins are monitoring it so I don't really see a problem with it.

Not trying to be a dick or anything but I doubt the server would get to the point where we'd have to disable it permanently. That'd require 50+ people and I'm not sure a 06 remake would be able to pull that crowd anymore.

I think we should just implement it and let it go :)

I would like a yell channel :) could always remove it once we get a huge player base in the far future :).

I disagree with having the ::yell feature, it just isn't something that seems right, unless of course you use it to your advantage like most servers, and make it a donator only function. I would definitely be on board with a clan chat though.

or just have it for everyone with gametime above 15 minutes. there's very few players and chances of a donator being online is little. If it gets out of control i'll just do ::yelloff or something

You could also set a play time restrictions or something maybe 2 or 3 days of playtime as a minimum for being able to use the chat

When I get a chance to talk to Ryan we will see about implementing this. We can do something like 10+ minutes of in-game time will allow you to do ::yell and then to stop spamming, we can make it have a certain amount of ::yell per minute (per player not per world).

You should definitely just throw $5 to the server. That's like lifetime access for what you paid monthly to Jagex for membership in 2006.

No idea it was supposed to be somewhat converted to the veteran title. Veteran being someone who did something of significance for the game itself (i.e the vote topics that JT made which was a fantastic idea,  where all staff members voted and if it wasn't unanimous or pretty dang close to unanimous they wouldn't get the title.). Ex staff certainly falls into that category. People who log in every once in a while and post stuff on the forums every month or so or quit for extended amounts of time and come back certainly didn't do anything for the game.

My fear in regards to donating has always been that a server will shut down after I donate, but given that runerebels has been nearly up for two years now I may actually consider doing it.

ouch, i'm applying lotion to the burn currently don't worry.

P.S. although I was gone for extended periods of time during my last few months of having staff, I would like to say that I did everything in my willpower to try and get you guys to work on stuff. I myself was on this game every day for long long hours every week before then and would try to help any and every player I could. Although I didn't have to, I spent days helping push out that Christmas event because I knew that's what the community really wanted.... I told you guys what would happen if each situation were to occur and you guys went along and did it anyways. I said several times that people would be dissppointed in several updates if they were pushed out (even though Ryan did do a lot of work), but people want to see the content, not have it sitting in the background for "future updates". I created multiple quests that to this day was never used and got over a hundred dialogues that TO THIS DAY still haven't been put in.  It may seem like I didn't do much, but I did well beyond my job in what I was required to do. Hell even the advertisement that me and Petter worked on for literally weeks, never was used. We put a lot of work into that ad as well..... So yeah I guess you could go ahead and say that I didn't do anything for the game, but in my eyes I did a hell of a lot more than what was expected out of me and went beyond my job to at the very least attempt in putting this game on the right track. Sorry for the little rant but to say I didn't do anything for the game is blasphemy.

Come back and get shit pushed out then. Hell, we've been promised another update a month ago and while I don't doubt SOMETHING is coming SOMETIME soon.. (maybe in November) it's not soon enough.. if there has been updates that we don't know about nobody can get pissed because we're getting restless especially the donators.  Nobody wants to throw money at something for it to turn out like 2006scape..

I definitely wasn't talking about you Austin, sorry if it came across that way. Out of all the developers we've had, you've hands down been my favorite and in my opinion the most effective. That was directed at the veterans (you know who you are) who pissed and moaned that they didn't have any glory on the forums when they came back from a 6 month hiatus and nobody knew who they were.

I I don't enjoy it. It's the most annoying thing in the world. When I came back to worldscape after being gone, I didn't expect anyone to know who I was. I started over. I didn't complain that I didn't have any recognition in the game, I dealt with it.
Hell, when I resigned from worldscape I asked to not have the veteran badge because it isn't for veterans at all.
