Rants / The Sad Truth
« on: September 12, 2014, 08:55:27 pm »
Hello to all RuneRebel players and staff,

I am here to reveal the sad truth regarding my thoughts about RuneRebels...

RuneRebels is probably one of the smoothest, well coded and developed servers I have ever played on(not content wise, but the flawlessness in the programming). From stalking MoparScape accounts, other servers, and developers, I believe it is safe to say that Ryan is one of the best developers in the entire RSPS community. However, I can't bring myself to play this server anymore because of the lack of updates and activity of the staff. I understand that we all have busy lives outside of developing RSPS, but from a player standpoint, we favor those no-life developers that have sold their soul and devoted their lives to the development of their server. I would much rather play a decently coded server with minor bugs than a perfectly coded server without bugs but with tons of missing content. This server has so much potential, but it is up to the developers if they want to do anything about it.

I understand I'm sounding harsh, and that is why I posted this under the rants section.

Bottom line: Any mediocre but active developer > an inactive Ryan.

P.S. Ryan told us he was back and that he sorted out his hectic schedule and life. I have not seen any updates besides the one made the day of his return.

General / Do You Think The Player Base For 2006 Era RSPS Is Slowly Fading?
« on: September 10, 2014, 10:53:26 pm »
Hey everyone,

Do you guys think the player base for 2006 style RSPS is slowly fading? Most people who play 2006 Remakes play because they experienced RuneScape in 2006 and enjoy that feeling of nostalgia. In 2006, the age range of the players who played RuneScape was somewhere around 8yrs - 24yrs. This means that those people are now 16yrs - 32yrs. As these people grow older, they move on with their lives or lose interest in playing video games (RSPS in this situation); therefore, I believe the player base for 2006 style RSPS is decreasing every year. When is the last time you saw a player below the age of 12 on a 2006 style server?

What are your thoughts?

Dear RuneRebels Developers,

I am suggesting that you guys create a category on the forums specifically for what is going on "behind the scenes". The community is eager to know what kind of progress that RuneRebels is currently undergoing, and the addition of a "behind the scenes" category on the forums will suffice that curiosity. All I am suggesting is for the Developers to post under the "behind the scenes" forum on what they accomplished for RuneRebels that day so that the players as well as other developers are all on the same page regarding updates.

Sincerely,
     Alectrona

No, RuneRebels was not nominated as the best oldschool server of the year; however, I included it because I truly believe that this server has that sort of potential.

Fixed bugs / Some fixes that regular developers can fix.
« on: August 03, 2014, 09:42:53 am »
I believe regular Developers have the ability to fix the following bugs.

Dairy Churns currently do not function. They are required for making butter for cooking items such as Tuna Potatoes.

The entrance into the Wheat field north of Ardougne. There is currently no way into the field. This is the best place to collect wheat, as it is very close to a mill and a bank.

Using a Pot of Flour with a bucket of water or jug of water should give the option to make either bread dough, pizza base, or pastry dough. Currently, it default makes bread dough without the interface with the three options.

There are no shopkeepers in the Bandit Camp in the wilderness. This is a popular place to purchase pizza base.

Tech Support / Cannot connect to the server, Server says it's online?
« on: August 02, 2014, 10:38:40 pm »
Hello,
I was recently disconnected from the server; however, the server says it is online with people playing on it(including me). My client does not connect to the update server. Is the server offline or is it just my connection?

The Vicious Cycle of RuneRebels
Dear RuneRebels staff and community,
It has come to my attention that our beloved RuneRebels has fallen into a relentless cycle. When new players discover this server, they usually stick around for a day or two, then decide to leave due to the lack of active players and updates. Whenever I check out a new server, the first place I visit is the "updates" section on their forums to see how frequently they update their content. The game itself is not as appealing when staff are not active in-game and the game itself has not been updated in a long time. Bottom Line: Players do not want to play a game that has no updates or active staff members in-game.

However, the staff find it hard to find motivation and time to develop and devote their precious time into a project that nobody sticks around and plays. When a developer sees that 50+ players are currently playing his game, he gets the feeling that many players are relying on him to develop new content, and is also easier for the staff to find that motivation to push on compared to a server that only has 2 active players. Bottom line: Developers have no motivation in developing a game that nobody plays.

In order to escape this vicious cycle, Both the players or the developers must go out of their comfort zone and deal with it and keep doing what they need to do. For players, this means making videos, voting, and advertising everywhere. For developers, this means start releasing updates and being active in-game and on the forums. It doesn't have to be major updates, its not the actual BIG UPDATE that lures players into the game, but its the feeling that the staff are always there improving the game. Releasing small updates like the ability to make pizzas or fixing drops mean just as much to the community as something big like a quest. As long as the staff are appealing to the community that they have not left but are still rolling out updates no matter the size, players will stick around longer.

This server needs people to step up and make the first move. The ones who do step up will be remembered as the one who brought back RuneRebels from its coma(cheesy but oh well).

This concludes my suggestion/rant/comment.
Thanks for reading it!

Fixed bugs / Pyrefiends Don't give slayer xp(even as a task)
« on: April 20, 2014, 05:57:07 pm »
Pyrefiends do not give slayer xp when they are killed. They were assigned as a task, yet i receive no slayer xp. The "You have x number of Pyrefiends left to kill" from enchanted gem does not decrease either. Maybe the wrong id was assigned to the task?
