Suggestions, Compliments, And Questions / For the site, and Spades.
« on: January 15, 2013, 08:10:56 pm »
Okay, so first you need to get the template sorted that I sent Frell because that portal is an absolute mess. You should also write the amount of players online to a database and then retrieve them and display the amount online in the header of the site or somewhere similar. If you write the java side I'll write the PHP side which would take a whole twenty seconds for the two of us since it's about 3 lines of code. They also need to fix the SSI stuff out, they have instructions on how to do it on skype, I have no idea if you were in that conversation or not.

As for the forums, the news and newsletter needs to be removed from the top right and placed in a bar of it's own, you can do this in general settings I'm sure. They're laid out horribly and a lot of the boards are un-needed. For example, there's no need for two general discussion boards, general chat about the real world and general chat about RR should fall into the same category, there's no real reason for two separate boards. Here you go:

Key:
- Category
-- Board
--- Child Board
/ Comment about the modification

- News, Announcements & Information.
/ Remove the child boards, add the rules to a separate page and add the tab to the nav bar. You can add tabs by the Subs.php file in your Sources directory. Also, remove the redirect boards. Most of the links are in the navigation bar, the others can be added. This will tidy this section up immensely.
-- News, Updates & Developer Contacts.
/ Where all news, announcements and general server information will be posted.
-- What's New?
/ Where the developers post all up and coming, done and in the pipe line updates.
-- Suggestions, Compliments & Questions
/ Where you can suggest something, compliment the developers and ask them questions, everything will receive developer input!

- General Category
/ Where all general and more community like boards will be placed. Some will be merged, some will be removed.
-- General Discussion
/ Where the off topic and RR general discussion boards are merged and become one board.
-- Introductions & Farewells
/ Where the introductions board goes and we might as well allow farewells while we're at it.
-- Tutorials and Guides.
/ This board remains put, however, it isn't restricted to RR, it's open to all tutorials and guides no matter the topic of the tutorial or guide.
-- Game & Tech Support
/ Where the item discussion and tech support boards are joined, this is just because both boards are rather inactive and general support can often be given out, removes another unneeded category.
-- Goals & Achievements
/ This is moved into this category, since this becomes the general community category.
-- General Media & Graphical Design
/ This is the screenshot, video and banners, logos graphics boards joined together.

- Events, PvP & Clans
/ Where the events from general in-game, pking, clans, then pk fights are organised along with clan recruitment.
-- Events
/ Organise an event here
-- PvP, Fights & Showoff
/ Discuss, organise and show off PvP-like things here.
-- Clans
/ Clan Discussion and Recruitment

- Marketplace
/ Where all buying and selling can take place, until RRMarket comes around, of course.
-- Buying
/ Where all buying is generalised, there's no need for separate boards.
-- Selling
/ Where all selling will be generalised, there's really no need for separate boards.

- Other Boards
/ Where other kind of topics will be discussed.
-- Other Games
/ E.G RuneScape/MineCraft
-- Forum Games
/ No post count of course.
-- Rants
/ No flaming, always a good board to have, keeps general complaints from general discussion.

Or some form of adaptation from that, it needs to be changed and that's a much cleaner layout. People can easily navigate around that and the moderators can then move and do what they must to keep the sections as clean as possible. This looks neater and more professional, presentation is a big part of my job in real life. On one hand I'm an oily messy engineer and the other half is when I'm presenting the possibility of a brand new 30 turbine large wind farm to worried villagers where they complain about everything. I'm more or less saying I'm open to come to agreements and discuss different layouts, there's just one certainty and this needs to be changed, if we want to gather in players then we need a respectable site, the forums layout falls under that. Feedback is appreciated. Spades asked for this list if anyone is wondering, he wouldn't let me just tell him in the IRC :(

Oh and I'm an apprentice environmental engineer mainly dealing in wind and tidal energy but I drift in and out of geothermal and small amounts of solar. I'm in the lead engineering team for 3 pretty large wind farms, I'm day release at college at the minute due to me being in my second year of my apprenticeship. I'll be full time on the job come august and then be out my time as an apprentice by my 4th year in august. I was originally pursuing a masters degree in physics, a bachelors in environmental engineering and maths and Siemens were paying for the lot of it but I couldn't keep up with that and full time work since the technicians on the turbines are incredibly shit. But yeah. My work story right there.

ok you won

Lol, I'm just letting everyone know :P.

I'm continuing my career in Cisco Networking, I finished 2 years in high school and plan on finishing it in College, However I have plans on changing my mind to do Web Design/Software Coding such as java languages to further my knowledge.
Website design and development is better done freelancing, it's hard to keep contracts rolling in. I usually charge 10$ a page per site I do and if it goes over 15 pages I drop it to 7$ a page. That's for the design aspect of it, if they wish scripts to be incorporated they then have to purchase the scripts from me and I'll add them where they like. Once you get your name out there you can really keep the people coming forth for more and more sites but it's not worth taking the risks of trying to make a living off of it unless you start working for a very large company. If you wish to get your name out there you need to spend a fortune on advertisements, and you need to be a pretty good and reliable website developer. If I was you I'd stick to networking and do web design and development on the side.

hello you scrub

So because of there is map issues and glitches in game that can result to your character being PERMANENTLY stuck until an admin can get on to help, We will just have to deal with it because adding a ::home command wasn't made in 2006.

You are totally not reading my post what so ever and your just ignoring the fact for nostalgia.

The issue is as stated, we are in alpha THERE IS ISSUES. Instead of waiting for admins, why not fix it yourself so you can continue playing without having to go WILL SOMEBODY HELP ME PLEASE IM STUCK until an admin gets on.

That's the issue, and that is a problem solver.

If you really want to discuss that its a 2006 remake, then I suggest the interface for September 2006 when the home button was added in runescape.
No, this is a crude fix to a further crude issue in the game. It shouldn't be something with a "cheap and nasty" fix such as a command. There should be something other than that which isn't as crude as the command you suggested, there's other ways around it. We're a professional server with a professional outlook on programming, not a quick fix.

"I'm fluent in PHP and a freelance website developer"

Im a designer and developer myself too, and I always like it when more of them are at a place.

Ahhhh I see now, it was the way you worded the developer part, I thought you meant a developer of RR lol. My bad :P.

37
I don't generally think this is needed, I mean, a lot of our staff and developers are respected members and moderators of MoparScape, MoparScape offers a graphics design category and a website design category so you could just use that. If you post over there I'm more than likely to help you, or you could PM me here/there. I don't think boards related to programming would suit an RSPS.

38
No, that wasn't in 2006-era RuneScape therefore it shouldn't be in RuneRebels. It's a good idea but it doesn't agree with me due to the fact that it's a remake and that wasn't in there.

ruby we are in the alpha-stage atm and we got some commands like "::players" which ofc dont/didnt exist in runescape
those commands will be removed after alpha-stage, its just for now to make the game more enjoyable
I understand that but we may as well build on the foundation we'll be playing on while we're through the alpha process, into the beta and into our release. We shouldn't be adding in commands such as ::players, they should be available to see on the website as RuneScape done. It's a much more professional way of doing things.

Hey,
Good to see a developer!
I'll private message you soon about something.

I'm not sure whether you mean another developer of RR in the developer part of your post, because I'm not an RR dev:P. I just helped them out because the first thing any player sees in RuneRebels is the website so it needs to look professional while remaining nice and keeping it simple for the younger generation to navigate and understand.

Hello there.

good combination hehe

ah and welcome
Haha, that's what everyone says :P.

Introductions / Ruby's Introduction
« on: January 15, 2013, 01:00:12 pm »
Hello there.

I thought I might as well make an introduction since I'll probably hang around here. I'm Ruby from MoparScape/Moparisthebest/RuneServer/RuneLocus and just about everywhere else. I'm 17, almost 18 from Scotland and I work for Siemens as an apprentice environmental engineer. I'm also a muay thai boxer, mixed martial artist, gym freak and part time alcoholic. I'm fluent in PHP and a freelance website developer, you'll probably see one of my templates appearing on the RuneRebels site since I gave them one last night. Either way, I'll be seeing you around.

Ruby.

I'm waiting for irc :D got to get that irc first!
irc.freenode.net:6667 #runerebels is the IRC. Or click here for the web applet.

Also, towards blogging. There's no real market for it in any form of RSPS or what not. I suppose that if you want to blog then there wouldn't be an issue with adding a blogging modification but I've owned a rather large server with blogging activated and it was never used, no-one visited the people who used it other than the 3 people who blogged. It's more or less just time that could be spent improving something else.

If you really want to blog, make a .tk domain, add it to 000webhost free hosting and install wordpress and there's a free online blog for you.

The yellow one had alot of problems we didn't expect

I'm probably going to dig deeper into the current theme we have and edit everything that sucks about it
When you hit the hard stuff feel free to ask me for pointers. Since SMF is my usual forum choice I more or less know it inside out.

That's better than this one but as I've said on the IRC a few times, it's not as much the colors it's the layout as well. The portal is a complete head-fuck looking at it, there's so much crammed into a small space. I suggest that you instead get rid of the portal and create a homepage that makes use of the SSI and then you can show the latest posts, members etc through that. You could then clean up the boards because some of them are ridiculous, for example the marketplace category. There's no need for that many boards. Those could be made into Buying and Selling and then you could split the individual categories such as food and runes into child boards, that would be a lot cleaner in my opinion.

The portal makes everything look extremely messy and people can't always tell where they should be going and what not. I think it'd be better if they got rid of the portal all together and made use of the SSI that SMF offers and shows the latest posts, latest members, etc etc that way through a custom, clean and easy to use homepage. It'd be a huge improvement to RR on the website side.
