Good update or bad update?  There's also sign-ups for the beta testing of the new combat!

I think this might actually be pretty good. More interactive combat based on timing and actual skill.

What the hell is this?? I'm not gonna go read about it, so someone just tell me and don't be a smartass about it.

It's a crossbow.

All Jagex has said so far is that they're completely reworking the combat system so that it will be based off of timing and precision, no more click and wait.

FYI- I don't like your tone lately.

Garrett, Kane is just kidding. He says that shit to be funny. ;)

I think this is pretty cool, but it may madden a lot of people who like the other style better. Doesn't affect me cause I don't play it but.

As Jagex has said recently, every update to the game is in hopes to give it a better future. They can not  please everybody and will be criticized for everything they do , so they do what they think is best. Frankly, I trust that Jagex will continue to do what is best for the future of Runescape.

[/quote]Two weeks ago you were bagging Jagex out saying that they're ruining the game. Now you're behind them 100%? You've been brainwashed  8)

From what it sounds like it doesn't sound like this is going to be successful at all, IMO.

They probably felt they're staying behind with current combat system, that happens when they get hooked with new Elders scrolls and forget what makes runescape unique is that is.. unique.

The game already very successful, Jagex knows what they're doing by now. They just decided to bring their combat system from the dark ages to present day.

The game's about medieval times?

Your idea of successful or mine? Because they have way less more people then they had before. Due to silly updates.
Title: Re: Evolution of Combat
Post by: Garrett on May 22, 2012, 06:15:57 pm
Jagex isn't "succeeding". Not to say they won't in the future but their business has declined a fuckton.

Come to think of it, this update would be cool if they didn't have a game based on medieval times like Jake said. It's like adding modern-age guns to Assassin's Creed, it's just weird as hell and completely inaccurate.

Where in this update do you see anything that's even close to being the same as adding modern day guns to assassin's creed?

The game's about medieval times?

What's that got to do with anything?

Because they should obviously only add medieval content to a medieval game...

"Bringing their combat system from the dark ages to modern day" - It's a medieval game, What's so modern about medieval?

You make no sense whatsoever, just because they update the combat system doesn't mean they will have modern day weapons. I just don't see your argument in the slightest.

So, it's not about clicking and waiting anymore, but about precision? That's something to look out for, because it looks like it's going to take some more practice for new PKing. We'll just see how it's going to end.

There has been more said about this recently. They are taking away all weapon-bound special attacks, and replacing them with abilities that you earn by leveling up your combat skills. Spec weapons like claws, DDS, Korasi and such will receive a significant stat boost to help keep them as desirable items. This means Godswords will have exactly the same stats as each other and the only difference will be cosmetic. I believe godswords are getting a boost as well.

Already hitting this, can you imagine how big the hits will be with the abilities post update? I just thought I would update everybody on that.

True, although I have no problems fighting godswords on RS. They just take some getting used to, like when they were first released on Worldscape. When you want to talk about overpowering, you have to mention turmoil. GF to anybody without it lol.

I just hate how they have SO much stuff like that now... Like they add so many complicated things that continue to make hits even higher yet they don't increase the max HP at all.

Well, they did actually increase max hp with the bon fire update. You just have to take part in a bon fire before you go pk. They're also redoing how prayers/curses work with the combat update so hopefully it will be a little bit more fair for those without the gp to get 95 prayer for turmoil.

Grrr... Mine = blown. I have no idea what any of this means. What happened to the days when people were scared to lose a whip?

Those days are long gone lol, although the price of whips are skyrocketing right now. I still lose 2-3 whips a day in wildy, and don't even count it as a loss. I just read the latest OGblog on runescape.com, and they are giving people a lot more lifepoints when the update comes.

Well, the sign up for beta ends on the 19th. I'm pretty sure beta will open up sometime towards the end of June-start of july, I'll be sure to post a video when I get the chance to test it out. :)

They pretty much are. That's why they're making new "Big" updates. To try and bring new audiences and get more money.

After all that's what they're all about.

honestly with a company based on an online game, i dont see how you go bankrupt. ryan manages to get by and he only has donators, not members who pay $7 a month.

Yes but Ryan doesn't have to pay his employees, In fact he doesn't have any. The closest thing to employee's around here are staff members. Ryan coded the server himself, He also maintains it himself (Along with Admins). Runescape is created and maintained by many people.

Jagex just wastes their money.

That's just another way of them trying to get money, but loosing money at the same time.

If anyone wore a Runescape Tee-shirt in Australia they'd get bashed. Simple as that  ::)

Nobody is automatically in beta, unless you have been a member for 12 consecutive months. Whips are 730k and rising.

Believe it or not, most people on the runescape forums are excited about this update. I'm sure this will be very fun.

From what I understand, the armor you choose will give you an extra constitution boost.
